Silke Meiners was trained as a biochemist and molecular biologist at the universities of Bonn (Germany), Norwich (GB), and Berlin, where she obtained her PhD degree. 

In 2010, Prof. Dr. Meiners joined the Comprehensive Pneumology Center at the Helmholtz Center Munich (Germany) as an independent research group leader. 

Since September 2021, Silke Meiners is heading a research group dedicated to immunoproteasome research at the Research Center Borstel/Leibniz Lung Center. 

She also holds a full professorship at the University of Kiel (Germany).

Prof. Dr. Meiners is an active fellow of the European Respiratory Society and currently serving as the ERS Research Seminar and Conference Director.
